President's Biography

George W. Waldner

President, York College of Pennsylvania

President of York College of Pennsylvania since 1991, George W. Waldner was a member of the National Commission on the Cost of Higher Education established in 1998 to study rising tuition rates and recommend solutions to the problem. He was the only representative from Pennsylvania and one of only three college presidents on the Commission.

Waldner is also a former member of the Board of Directors of the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities, and of the Board of Advisors of the Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education.

Waldner holds a Ph.D. in international politics from Princeton University. He has published articles in the field of United States-Japan relations. Prior to coming to York College, he served as vice president for Academic Affairs at Wilkes University in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., and as provost at Oglethorpe University in Atlanta.
