The mission of the IT Help Desk is to provide quality service to the YCP community in addressing all technology-related needs. Located in PAC 181, the IT Help Desk is a friendly place to discuss technical concerns. Students, faculty and staff receive assistance with general computing issues including hardware, campus-supported software, network connectivity and user accounts. We provide problem resolution and personal assistance to help you make the most of YCP and personal technology resources such as handheld devices and game consoles.
Faculty and staff can also take advantage of training to make use of campus-supported equipment and applications such as Microsoft Office and Terminalfour Content Managment System.
Please contact the IT Help Desk by email: firstname.lastname@example.org, phone: 717.815.1559, or chat from the myYCP Home page.
The IT Help Desk provides support for personally-owned computers to connect to the YCP network, both wired and wirelessly. Assistance is also provided in removing malware and spyware.
Resident students can enjoy cable TV in their residence hall with an expanded station lineup, including HBO and HD channel offerings.
The wireless network has recently been expanded to all residence halls for students for an easy and convenient way to connect computers or mobile devices to YCP’s network.
IT currently offers 8 general purpose computer labs, 35+ specialty labs, 1,000+ computers, and over 130 smart classrooms that use projection systems, multimedia equipment, and the Internet to complement the learning process.
The eight public computer labs are available for student use with 24/7 access. These labs are located in PAC, and students can access the building after hours by swiping their ID card at the entrance by the green rock.
Students can send print jobs wirelessly from their computers to printer release stations and print out their documents at the release stations on the way to class. This resource offers an economical alternative to bringing a personal printer to campus.
All students, faculty and staff receive a YCP network account. The account user name serves as the YCP email address email@example.com. The account provides access to campus computers, data storage (H: Drive), Pay4Print, YCP wi-fi, and myYCP.
MyYCP is the York College intranet portal. It allows students, faculty, staff and alumni of the college to access multiple campus resources including Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Docs, Blackboard and YCPWeb with a single login. The portal is organized into "communities" of student organizations and campus departments which provide web space for group communication and document distribution. Announcements are posted on the home page of the portal to inform the campus of important events.
York's intranet portal, MyYCP, provides single sign on access to all of our online resources. You must have a valid YCP user name and password to access MyYCP. An icon set at the top left of the Home page of the portal is used to access these resources.
The resources available on the portal include:
The "H: drive" is the main file storage for York College students, faculty and staff. Users are allowed 1GB of data storage for documents, audio and video files, etc. Files can be accessed on or off campus through the MyFiles icon on the myYCP portal.
York College has made significant investment in wireless technologies over the past five years. All academic buildings, residence facilities and outside areas have Wi-Fi wireless connectivity for York College network account holders.
Due to the increasing use of smart phones and other mobile devices by the YCP community, we have invested in cellular infrastructure in 8 key academic buildings across campus, in many West Campus residence facilities and in the Northside Commons residence facility.
Most YCP students, faculty and staff have mobile devices covered by AT&T or Verizon carriers. Both of these providers support 3G currently and look to be heading for 4G coverage. Our cellular infrastructure supports both carriers and includes 3G services. Additional cellular services will be added wherever possible and as budget permits.
Update: Two new area cellular towers are in the process of coming online. One new Verizon tower is located at York Hospital and is up and running, and a new AT&T tower will be live in summer 2011 located next to the YCP Kingsmill Depot. The close proximity of these towers to the College will provide some areas outside YCP buildings with improved cellular and 3G coverage.
