Area Coordinator

 

A full-time administrative Area Coordinator position(s) available at York College of PA. The Area Coordinator is a live in, full time, 12 month position responsible for managing all functions of a residential complex of approximately 500-800 students and supervising a staff of undergraduate Resident Assistants (12-15), Undergraduate Desk Assistants (20-35), and an undergraduate Desk Supervisor and an undergraduate Community Assistant.

The Area Coordinator promotes safety in the complex, serves in an on-call rotation, hears student conduct cases, conducts weekly staff and supervisory meetings, responds to emergencies, and serves as a liaison between the Residence Life Office, Campus Operations, the Student Affairs Office, and other administrative areas as needed.  The Area Coordinator also serves in an auxiliary capacity to one of the following areas: The Student Leadership Program and Volunteer Services, Campus Wellness, and Greek Life.  This student life assignment includes advising student organizations, implementing programs, and serving on appropriate committees.

Chloé Eichelberger Endowed Chair in Business Education/Associate Dean, Graham School of Business

 

York College is seeking a scholar, educator, and energetic leader to assume the Eichelberger Chair of Business Education and bring to it, the Graham School of Business, and York College, new levels of distinction.  This appointment will be at the level of Associate Dean, and will carry academic rank commensurate with experience and credentials, and will begin summer or fall 2015.

Background:The Chloé Eichelberger Endowed Chair in Business Education was made possible through a generous gift of a successful York entrepreneur.  In keeping with the purpose of this endowment, the appointee will have exemplary academic credentials and demonstrate a clear vision for developing an increasingly strong academic program, to move the School of Business toward AACSB accreditation, and to further enhance the long-standing relationships between York College and the local business community.

The appointee will advance the work of the College and The Graham School of Business in a number of ways, all of which are in keeping with the mission of York College. More specifically:

1. The appointee shall provide all interested students at the graduate and undergraduate level, majors and non-majors alike, with a supportive and challenging learning environment for the study and application of ethical business practices, practices that have been the hallmark of Chloé Eichelberger’s own work.  To accomplish this, the appointee will contribute meaningfully to both curricular and co-curricular development. In these ways, the appointee’s work will support the teaching mission of the college, the college’s focus upon professionalism, the development of a national reputation for the Graham School of Business’s programs, and the vision of the donor.

2. As a core element of this appointment, the appointee will be responsible for developing appropriate events, including speakers and/or conferences, which will benefit both the college and local business community.  Funds from the endowment will be earmarked for this purpose on an annual basis.

3. The appointee shall lead efforts toward continuous improvement of the academic programs of the Graham School of Business.

This is a unique opportunity to move the Graham School of Business, York College’s largest academic department, to the next level of excellence.  As Associate Dean for the Graham School, the successful candidate will oversee both the undergraduate and graduate programs in business, working with program coordinators (who administer individual majors) toward ongoing curricular development, assessment, and advancement of the department’s programs. The Associate Dean is also responsible for preparing budgets, serving on the Dean of Academic Affairs’ Academic Council, recruiting (as necessary) well-qualified professors, and acting as a spokesperson for the Graham School and liaison with area business leaders.  The Associate Dean also supports faculty development to assure the high-quality teaching that is central to York College’s mission.

The Graham School is housed in the newly-opened Willman Business Center, a $17,000,0000 state of the art facility that offers specialized teaching spaces (including our NASDAQ Trading Lab), lecture hall, meeting rooms, and a dramatic event venue overlooking our campus and York City.  York College also enjoys a strong and symbiotic relationship with our many industry partners in the York area, a region that enjoys a thriving manufacturing and business base. To achieve our educational goal of bonding academic substance with real-world experience, the department has built close relationships with major corporations in the region, such as Wellspan Health, Johnson Controls, Harley-Davidson, Glatfelter Paper, and Graham Packaging. The Business Department at York College is accredited by ACBSP and offers the MBA as well as undergraduate majors in Accounting, Business Administration, Computer Information Systems, Economics, Engineering Management, Entrepreneurship, Finance, Management, Marketing, and Supply Chain Operations Management. York College is also home to the J D Brown Center for Entrepreneurship and the Center for Professional Excellence. The next Eichelberger Chair will have the opportunity to build upon this strong base and these available resources by:

• Serving as Associate Dean of the Graham School of Business;

• Overseeing the processes of seeking AACSB accreditation;

• Offering to our students excellent classroom experiences in his or her field of expertise;

• Exploring new and innovative methods of course delivery and areas of concentration for our MBA program as well as undergraduate programs;

• Acting as a public voice in the local and national business community through scholarly and professional presentations and publications, and by further developing the Eichelberger lecture series;

• Working with faculty to create cutting-edge curricula and encourage innovative teaching methods;

• Working with industry partners to offer local, national, and international experiences that prepare our students for the global marketplace;

• Collaborating with other academic departments to create a spirit of entrepreneurship in students from all majors, in keeping with the college’s mission;

• Collaborating with our advancement division to continue and enhance philanthropic support of the Graham School and the College.

Qualifications:The successful candidate will possess an earned doctorate in a business-related field, will have a proven record as a scholar and educator, and will bring significant academic leadership experience to this position.

College Psychiatrist

 

College Psychiatrist position (part-time, 9 months, 4-5 hours/week), is available with York College Health Services. Employment to begin in late August 2014. Duties include providing psychiatric and medication evaluations and management for students seen at Health Services during the school year. Provide consultation with Health Services and Counseling Services staff to assist with clinical treatment. Consult with parents, physicians, faculty, staff/administrators, other community treatment providers, and students when appropriate.  Limited phone consultations between times in the office as needed for emergency consultation about clients seen. Requires a M.D. or D.O. with board certification in psychiatry. Experience working with a multidisciplinary treatment team, and the ability to treat students from diverse backgrounds within a college setting. Ability to work effectively in a collegiate setting with students, faculty, administrators, and staff. Ability to work in a fast-paced work environment and be able to practice medicine in an ethical, professional manner and maintain Pennsylvania MD Licensure. Experience with Nuesoft Software is helpful.

Director, First-Year Experience

 

York College is seeking a Director of First Year Experience.  The Director will be a full-time year-round administrator responsible for assisting the Director of General Education and the Dean of Academic Affairs with core functions of the General Education program related directly to students’ first year at the College, acting as a liaison between the core functions of General Education within Academic Affairs and supporting co-curricular and advising activities in Student Affairs, Academic Services, and Enrollment Management.  Start date is negotiable.

The Director, who reports to the Dean of Academic Affairs, will work with the Director of General Education and First-Year Seminar Coordinator to

• Develop, oversee, and provide ongoing communications and assessment plans for, a coherent and  First Year Experience Program that integrates curricular, co-curricular and advising elements, with special attention to the First Year Seminar curriculum

• Provide faculty development in First Year Experience best practices in coordination with the Center for Teaching and Learning

• Liaison with the Graham Innovation Scholars Program, an honors element of the curriculum

• Oversee the academic elements of the Bridge to Results program, a summer enrichment program for incoming first-year students, assuring academic rigor and acting as Academic Affairs liaison with the College Retention Committee

• Partner with the divisions of Academic Services, Student Affairs, and Enrollment Management to assure student success and persistence, and to integrate co-curricular activities, student recruitment, and academic components

• Teach one course per semester, likely in First Year Seminar Program

The successful applicant will hold a graduate degree (doctorate preferred) in a relevant field, significant training and experience in pedagogical best practices, teaching experience, excellent communication, planning, organizational, facilitation, and leadership skills, and the demonstrable ability to interact well with College faculty and administrators.
