John Brown, Chief Executive Officer and Owner of Blockhouse Furniture, Inc. and a trustee of the York College of Pennsylvania, created the J.D. Brown Center for Entrepreneurship in 2006 to promote collaboration among the traditionally separated communities of business and academia.
Mr. Brown's vision was for the Center to serve as a catalyst for collaboration among academic, public, and private entities, harnessing their knowledge and expertise to promote the growth of private enterprise throughout the region. Today, the Center is the focal point for entrepreneurial activity on the York College campus and has established itself as one of the region's premier leaders in providing business resources and education to those interested in launching their own business.
A proud Nittany Lion, Mr. Brown received both his bachelor's degree and MBA from Penn State University. His passion for entrepreneurship has been realized in numerous successful ventures, chief among them his time as President of Brubaker Kitchens, Inc., Owner of SSK, Inc., and most recently the tremendous growth he has experienced at the helm of Blockhouse Furniture, Inc.
In addition to serving as a York College trustee and advisory board member for the Center, Mr. Brown also serves on the board of directors at York Traditions Bank. His community service volunteerism includes directorships with the York County Blind Center and the Baltimore Symphony. In 2001 his business acumen was awarded by Ernst & Young when he was named "Manufacturing Entrepreneur of the Year" in Central Pennsylvania.
