Yongyi Song: From Jail to Jail:
Surviving Chinese Prisons to
Defend Intellectual Freedom
October 9, 2013, 7 p.m.
Willman Business Center
Weinstock Lecture Hall
Co-sponsored by the Schmidt Library
Professor Song is a survivor and historian of China's Cultural Revolution and an author, researcher and political activist. He was twice jailed by the Chinese government: once between 1970-1975 for organizing an underground reading club, and the other in 2000 for conducting research on the Cultural Revolution and "subverting state security." Despite his abuse in prison, Song survived to become a prolific author and an international expert on the Cultural Revolution and Chinese politics.
His lecture will address both topics.
