FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

York College will welcome more than 1,000 new students to campus on the morning of Aug. 22. After arriving and moving into their residence halls, they will participate in a variety of events throughout a four-day orientation program to introduce them to the campus and local community.

Students will be officially welcomed at an assembly at 2 p.m., which will be followed by a class photo. Their first day will end with a graffiti and ice cream party that evening.

On Aug. 23, they will discuss their summer reading assignment – Cormac McCarthy’s Pulitzer Prize winning-book “The Road” – over lunch with faculty members.  Later in the day, the incoming class will be asked to sport their version of YCP Spartan spirit as they prepare for a 7 p.m. York Revolution game.  During “York College Night with the Revolution,” the school mascot will throw out the first pitch of the game, and Kelle Brenneman of York, a sophomore music industry/recording technology major, will sing the national anthem.

The Spartan Green Machine will shuttle students to downtown York on Aug. 25, introducing them to the community and familiarizing them with the free shuttle service, which is a collaborative effort of rabbittransit and YCP’s Student Senate. An involvement fair and campus cookout will begin at 5 p.m. that day. During that event, students will interact with academic departments, administrative offices and outside volunteer agencies, in addition to student organizations.

Located in southcentral Pennsylvania, York College is among Pennsylvania’s largest comprehensive colleges, offering more than 70 majors to its 4,600 undergraduate students. With a 15:1 student-to-faculty ratio and distinctive mentoring programs, York provides an environment that emphasizes close personal attention to students from 30 states and 38 countries.
