YORK, Pa. - York College is one of 212 colleges that are the "Best in the Northeast," according to The Princeton Review.
The New York City-based education services company selected York as one of the institutions it recommends in its "Best in the Northeast" section on its PrincetonReview.com feature "2009 Best Colleges Region by Region." It also profiles the school in its book, "The Best Northeastern Colleges: 2009 Edition," published by Random House and on sale beginning Aug. 5.
York College and others designated as "Best in the Northeast" are located in 11 states: Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont and the District of Columbia.
"We commend all of the schools we name this year as our 'regional best' colleges primarily for their excellent academic programs," said Princeton Review's Vice President of Publishing Robert Franek. "We selected them based on institutional data collected from several hundred schools in each region, our visits to schools over the years, and the opinions of independent and high school-based college advisors whose recommendation we invite. We also take into account what each school's customers - their students - report to us about their campus experiences."
The Princeton Review surveys students and asks them to rate their own schools on several issues -- from the accessibility of their professors to quality of the campus food -- and answer questions about themselves, their fellow students and their campus life. York College students commented on the "beautiful campus," extremely accessible and dedicated professors, and the availability of academic help. When asked about campus life, they mentioned the "outstanding" and "beautiful" Grumbacher Sport and Fitness Center, an abundance of "clubs on campus and many events to attend for entertainments and class credit." In addition, a student commented that "Everyone [here] accepts everyone else and shows a genuine concern for fellow students."
Located in South Central Pennsylvania, York College is among Pennsylvania's largest comprehensive colleges, offering over 70 majors to its 4,600 undergraduate students. With a 15:1 student to faculty ratio and distinctive mentoring programs, YCP provides an environment that emphasizes close personal attention to students from 30 states and 38 countries.
