Posted February 6, 2008FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
YORK, Pa. - Marilyn Wann, a leader in the emerging discipline of Fat Studies, will present "The Real F-Word: Celebrating Weight Diversity, Confronting Fears, Feeling Fabulous," Wednesday, Feb. 20, at 7 p.m. in Wolf Recital Hall on the YCP campus.
Wann is an activist and proponent of the message that it is health, not weight, that we should focus on. She helped push for San Francisco to become one of the few places where it is illegal to discriminate based upon weight. She is also the editor of the magazine Fat?So! and author of a book of the same name. Fat?So! was selected by the American Library Association for its list of Recommended Titles for Reluctant Young Readers. She is a member of the board for the National Association to Advance Fat Acceptance.
The event, free and open to the public, is being held as part of YCP's Eating Well Week and is funded in part by the departments of English & Humanities and Nursing, Student Affairs and the Academic Senate.
