Madison Square Garden. United States Olympic Committee. Under Armor. Philadelphia 76ers. Major League Baseball. Hershey Bears, the National Hockey League.
That's an impressive list of sports organizations, but what’s more significant is that it's just a sampling of the franchises for whom Tim Newman's former students work.
Dr. Newman believes he can lecture his sport management students till the cows come home, but the students have to be able to get out in the real world and apply that knowledge.
It could be developing a sports marketing plan for a non-profit like Golden Girls Lacrosse, or it could be implementing an audit for sports economics. Or it could be an internship in the group ticket sales office of the Philadelphia Phillies.
Just in case his York College students wonder, Dr. Newman practices what he preaches. In his spare time, he performs marketing and promotion for the Golf Channel amateur tour, which sponsors golf tournaments in 23 cities.
