YORK, Pa. - York College of Pennsylvania has received a $5,000 Weyer Community Health Fund Grant from York County Community Foundation to support the Nurse Managed Wellness Centers' Asthma Safe Kids Program. Announcement of the grant was made by Susan A. Barry, President of the Community Foundation.

Dr. Cheryl Thompson, clinical director of the Nurse Managed Wellness Centers, said the funds would be used to teach low income York City families about environmental asthma triggers.

"Asthma incidence is much higher in low income children, up to 25 percent, and this program has been shown to increase knowledge and reduce emergency room visits and hospitalizations," said Thompson.
