Habitat for Humanity Challenges York College Students on Winter Break
Posted March 20, 2007FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
York College of Pennsylvania students volunteered to raise walls and hammer nails this winter break during Habitat for Humanity’s “Collegiate Challenge.”
On Sunday, Feb. 25, York College students went to Florida to work at two sites – 25 students went to Delray Beach and 20 students went to West Palm Beach. At Delray Beach the students worked on two houses – raising the roof on one house and finishing painting and drywall on another house. At the West Palm Beach site the students sorted items and then worked in a house for two days.
While in Florida, the students at Delray Beach stayed in a YMCA and were provided with meals every night by a host family. The students at West Palm Beach stayed in a Habitat for Humanity office and were provided with a dinner from the affiliate one night. The students returned home Friday, March 2.
The Collegiate Challenge program offers high school and college-aged students year-around opportunities to use their vacations to serve a community by volunteering to build homes.
