York College Grad Named Educator of the Year

PEAPACK, N.J. – York College of Pennsylvania graduate Jim Hintenach, a special education teacher at the Matheny School, has been selected as Educator of the Year by the National Association of Private Special Education Centers. The Matheny School is part of the Matheny Medical and Educational Center in New Jersey.
Hintenach, a 29-year-old resident of Phillipsburg, N.J., has a bachelor’s degree in elementary education with a minor in special education from YCP. He will receive the NAPSEC national award on January 18, 2007, during the annual conference.
Hintenach joined Matheny in 2000 as a substitute teacher, later becoming an activities instructor in adult services. Once he had received his special education certification in 2002, he launched his teaching career in Matheny’s transition class of students preparing for young adulthood.
Matheny is a special hospital and school for children and adults with multiple developmental disabilities. NAPSEC is a Washington, DC-based nonprofit association with 300 member schools. Its mission is to represent private special education centers and their leaders, advocating for access to the continuum of alternative placements and services.
