FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WHAT: To kick off the first annual York College in the City program, the local bus system will bring hundreds of York College students at no cost from York College to downtown York for walking tours, shopping, “taste testing” at local restaurants and entertainment

WHEN: Tuesday, October 24, 5-10 p.m.

WHERE: 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. (YCP main entrance), 6:30 – 8 p.m. (downtown mostly along Market and George Streets), 8-10 p.m. (Sparky & Clark’s)

BACKGROUND: York College in the City is an exciting new venture initiated by York SIFE for the sole purpose of bringing York College and the City of York together. With more than 4,400 students, York College is a huge untapped market for downtown businesses.  The planning committee includes representatives from the York County Chamber of Commerce, Downtown, Inc., the York Restaurant Coalition, Mayor John Brenner’s office, and York College professors, administrators and students.

TOUR: The students will be picked up at the main entrance of the college and dropped off at the Rabbit Transfer Station downtown at the corner of King Street and Pershing Avenue to meet the tour guides. The tour will go as far east as the Martin Library and as far west as Sam & Tony’s on Market Street. The tour will also go on George Street as far south as Market Square and as far north as the Strand-Capitol. The tour will end at Sparky & Clarks.
