Conference on China’s One-Child Policy

YORK, Pa. – The Institute of Applied Social Research at York College will be sponsoring a conference titled “China’s One-Child Policy: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow” Sept. 16 from 9:30 a.m. to noon in YCP Alumni Hall in Iosue Student Union.

YCP Professor Zehao Zhou, a board member of the Foundation for Meg’s Sisters and a well-known humanitarian activist, will be the guest speaker. Zhou will be discussing the historical background of China’s population policy and presenting personal stories of Chinese parents’ reactions to the policy.

A panel discussion will follow and include the following panelists: Leslie Delp, executive director and founder of York’s Olivia’s House, offering insight into the loss process which occurs for children who are abandoned and later adopted; as well as YCP professor, Dr. James Foresman, and Lisa Hoffman, parents of a special needs Chinese daughter.

The Foundation for Meg’s Sisters, a nonprofit organization which helps local families adopt from China, The White Rose Chapter of the Families with Children From China, and Cradle of Hope, an adoption agency, will have information tables in the lobby.
