NATIONAL SPORT AND COMMUNICATION EXPERT TO SPEAK AT YORK COLLEGE

YORK, Pa. – Former Stanford University basketball player and communication professional, Mariah Burton Nelson, will speak on the campus of York College, Thursday, April 27, at 7 p.m., in DeMeester Theater. This national expert on sports, success and leadership will come to YCP two days before the opening of its Grumbacher Sport and Fitness Center.
Nelson began her record-setting basketball career at Stanford University while earning her degree in psychology. After finishing her master’s in public health, she played professionally in France and was a part of the first women’s professional basketball league in the United States.
Also an author, columnist and communication professional, Nelson currently serves as Chief Speechwriter and Acting Director of AARP. She has been delivering keynote speeches for 20 years and is also a member of the National Speakers Association located in Washington, D.C.
Nelson currently writes for a number of publications including Newsweek, The Washington Post, New York Times, Fitness, Glamour, Cosmopolitan, as well as many others. She has also written 5 books, including her most recent, We Are All Athletes: Bringing Courage, Confidence, and Peak Performance Into Our Daily Lives.
