YORK COLLEGE AND WELLSPAN HEALTH TO INTRODUCE NEW NURSING MASTER’S DEGREE
Posted April 6, 2006FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
YORK, Pa. – A recently accredited certified registered nurse anesthetist (CRNA) program will begin at York College in August 2006. The program is a shared venture between YCP and WellSpan Health. Successful completion of the 8-semester full-time curriculum will result in the award of a master of science degree, as well as eligibility to take the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA) certification examination to become certified as a registered nurse anesthetist.
York College began the accreditation process in March 2005 and was accepted as one of the 100 programs in the U.S. in January 2006. There are only 33,000 registered nurse anesthetists and about 65% of all anesthetics are administered by CRNA’s. The goal of this program is to increase the number of anesthetists in Southcentral Pennsylvania, as well as to increase interest in the undergraduate nursing program at York College.
York College recently accepted six students into the program. They will start their education in August 2006 and graduate in May 2009.
To apply for admission into the CRNA program you must have a bachelor’s of science in nursing, a minimum 3.0 GPA and at least one year of experience in critical care nursing. For more information call 815-1462 or e-mail Dr. Haas at rhaas@ycp.edu.
