WHAT DID YOU LEARN TODAY?

Kari Kinard cries a lot on the drive home from work. Sobs of sorrow and tears of pain.
Kari is a nurse’s assistant on the oncology floor at York Hospital. Whether it’s colon, ovarian, prostate or another type of cancer, she sees how it ravages the body. She quietly cheers patients through chemotherapy, and grieves when one has a relapse.
In her second year in the position, she recognizes a patient who’s in the latter stages of the disease, when there is very little that modern medicine can do to help.
Kari is the kind of nurse you’d want your father or mother or child to have. She sees this black cloud with a sliver of a silver lining. An opportunity to help a family through one of its most difficult times.
Kari also is in the midst of finishing her course requirements and clinical rotations to complete her bachelor’s degree in nursing in May.
While she’s unsure of the specialty she wishes to pursue, she knows her York College training will put her well ahead of the field.
