The defensive player backs up a step, crouching at the knees, weary arms hang at his side. Sweat puddles off of his cheeks onto the floor, his eyes glued to the drenched #30 on his opponent’s chest. The outcome of the game hangs in the balance. In a flash, the defender is screened just enough for #30 to break free. The sharpshooter rises up and swishes the three-point shot.

Brandon Bushey is accustomed to taking the BIG shot. He’s also a gritty defensive player and a willing rebounder. He’ll do anything his team needs him to do in order to win the game.

Some think Brandon unlucky, though. He doesn’t always take the opportunity to go out to dinner with teammates and family after a victory. There are sacrifices he makes in order to maintain his 3.85 grade point average.

Brandon knows that he won’t be entering the NBA Draft. He plans to go to graduate school and earn his Ph.D. Truth is, Brandon is equally proud of earning Academic All-America honors as he is of leading his York College teammates to the Final Four.
