TRADING GENES – THE NEWEST THING IN REALITY TV?
Posted November 14, 2005FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
YORK, PA – We all have watched or at least heard about the hit television show “Extreme Makeover.” The transformations are shown in graphic detail leaving little to the imagination.
This raises the question – Can makeovers get more extreme?
“If you call changing genes extreme, then yes,” says Dr. Dennis Weiss, a York College Philosophy Professor.
Weiss will present “Extreme Makeovers and the End(s) of Humanity,” an in-depth look into how far makeovers can go and at what risk, on Thursday, November 17 at 7:00 p.m. in MAC Recital Hall on the York College campus.
This multimedia presentation, free and open to the public, will address the different ways human beings have pursued extreme makeovers and the implications for the future of humanity. It will also examine recent issues such as artificial intelligence, robotics, cybernetics, genetic engineering and cloning.
Weiss, Chair of the English and Humanities Department at York College, is the editor of Interpreting Man and author of essays exploring digital technologies, the posthuman and biotechnology.
