Spartans capture Capital Athletice Conference Championship

The York College men’s basketball team earned their first-ever Capital Athletic Conference tournament championship on Sunday, Feb. 27 as the Spartans outlasted a spirited Catholic University squad 73-62 in a packed Wolf Gymnasium in the tournament’s championship contest. The Spartans, winners of 11 straight overall and 16 in a row at home, earned the automatic bid to next week’s NCAA Division III Tournament with the victory. York improves to a school-record 25-2 overall. The CAC championship is the first in four tries for the Spartans.

After capturing the CAC tournament title, the Spartans received a first round bye in the NCAA Division II Tournament and will host the winner of the New Jersey City-Virginia Wesleyan first round game on Saturday, March 5 at 7:00 pm in Wolf Gymnasium A. New Jersey City and Virgina Wesleyan will square off on Thursday evening in the first round game at Virginia Wesleyan. The NCAA Tournament features 48 teams with 16 teams earning first round byes.
