York College of Pennsylvania embraces design of iconic House Industries
Posted October 8, 2004FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
York College of Pennsylvania welcomes House Industries, an internationally-recognized, independent digital typeface, design and illustration studio, with an opening exhibit at the York College Galleries, followed by an artist's lecture on Wed., Oct. 13, at 7 p.m. in DeMeester Theater.
House Industries captures recently historic pop culture and transforms it into a form that is both relevant and hip today. By analyzing cultural icons from decades past, such as tiki torches, shag rugs, any number of television shows currently running on the television station TV Land, House Industries creates a reminiscent style, yet fresh, that resounds with artists, designers and consumers of all generations.
In their recently published book, "House: A Ten-Year Retrospective," House Industries chronicles its "ascent from modest beginnings as a two-man graphic design firm to one of the world's most prolific type foundries." Featuring informative visual history, including hundreds of never-before-seen sketches, photographs, creative tips, design critiques and a multi-session compact disc of five exclusive new House Industries fonts ($150 if sold separately), the linen-bound, 240-page hardcover book uncovers the mystery of style that is House Industries.
For York College Galleries exhibit hours, contact (717) 815-1528 or visit the Art Exhibits page. The exhibit continues through Nov. 12.
