FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

York, Pennsylvania - Nine mechanical engineering students at York College of Pennsylvania will be traveling to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to compete in the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Mini Baja Race Car Competition. The contest will take place June 3 - 6 and will consist of a number of racing and judging events with over 136 cars entered from colleges and universities around the world. An open house will be held on Tuesday, June 1, from 1 to 2 p.m. in McKay Hall, located at 890 Grantley Avenue, to view the car and meet the team members.

The Mini Baja competition is designed to simulate real-world engineering design projects and their related challenges. Engineering students are asked to design and build an off-road vehicle that will survive the severe punishment of the rough terrain, in addition to meeting cost targets, designing for manufacturability, service, and comfort, while still excelling in a variety of dynamic events.

The object of the competition is to provide students with a challenging project that involves the planning and manufacturing tasks found when introducing a new product to the consumer industrial market. Student teams compete against one another to have their design accepted for manufacture by a fictitious firm. Students must function as a team to not only design, build, test, promote, and race an off-road vehicle within the limits of the rules, but also to generate financial support for their project and manage their educational priorities.
