World-Renowned Gardener Coming to YCP
Posted April 2, 2004FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Dan Hinkley, an avid gardener and owner of Heronswood Nursery in Washington state, will be speaking at York College on Monday, April 19. As a professional gardener in the laboratory and in the wild, Dan’s experiences have led him all over the world to places such as the wilds of Asia, South America, Mexico, Tasmania, and Canada.
His devotion to introducing rare and unusual plants to gardeners of North America enabled him to establish Heronswood Nursery 16 years ago, with his partner, Robert L. Jones. As a retail mail-order nursery, Heronswood has nearly 3,000 plant species and currently supplies exotic plants to 48 states as well as England and Asia.
Hinkley’s insight into the gardening world can be found in a number of published periodicals and books, including Pacific Horticulture, The American Gardener, Gardens Illustrated, and his first book, Winter Ornamentals. He is a contributing editor to Horticulture Magazine and has appeared regularly on national television programs as a gardening correspondent. In 2003, Hinkley was honored by the Scott Arboretum Gold Medal from Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania for his lifetime achievements in horticulture.
The presentation begins at 7:00 p.m. in DeMeester Theater. For more information, please call Marilyn Daly at (717) 815-1289.
