York College Presents... Institute for Regional Affairs
Posted October 30, 1998FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
York, Pennsylvania--York College, in partnership with York Federal, introduced the Institute for Regional Affairs in June. The Institute's two primary goals and objectives are to provide regular analysis of the economic trends affecting York County and the South Central region of the state and to undertake research projects that advance the base of knowledge relevant to community and economic development in the Greater York Area.
What makes the Institute truly unique is the computer model that will be utilized. The model was developed by Regional Economic Models, Inc.(REMI) in Amherst, MA. The model provides the ability to examine the impact of a wide array of economic events and policy changes not only in York County, but South-Central Pennsylvania, the York -Baltimore corridor as well as the entire state of Pennsylvania.
South-Central Pennsylvania currently has no such resources available to provide this service.
Dr. Ken Slaysman, a faculty member in York's Business Administration department, is the Executive Director of the Institute. Prior to coming to York College, Dr. Slaysman held various positions in the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development and in the Governor's office. Most recently he was the Director of Planning, Evaluation and Economic Analysis.
The REMI model will enable Slaysman and the Institute to forecast where the York County and regional economy is heading, as well as conduct analyses of the economic impact of national, regional and local events.
