York College Students Help Kids in Need at William Penn
Posted November 24, 1998FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
York, Pennsylvania--Thirty students at William Penn Senior High School are in a program called "Life Skills Support." They are not your average high school students learning math and English; they are being taught the necessary skills to function in the outside world. York College students in Student Senate will be working with the low functioning children at William Penn High School on Friday, December 4, from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. They will assist with the Life Skills Program by acting as role models and giving the children an opportunity to have contact with people from the outside world.
York College students will be helping the children develop social skills, focus on one on one attention, and interact with new and different people in society. They are volunteering their time to the school because they feel they can make a difference in the lives of these children. "This is the Senate's way of coming out to help the community," commented Devin Kelly, president of Student Senate.
Student Senate will also be working hand-in-hand with William Penn High School in April of 1999 as they plan their Annual AIDS Walk. They are in the process now of finding sponsors to help with this substantial project. Various organizations from the York Community will be participating in the Walk.
