York, Pennsylvania--Melissa Miller, a York College of Pennsylvania senior elementary major from Plainsboro, New Jersey, received the Kate Hollister Prize. This is awarded to an outstanding international student by the International Office of University College of Ripon-York St. John in York, England.
Miller participated in York College's exchange program with Ripon-York St. John in the fall of 1997. She was selected from a group of over 90 international students from Europe, Japan, and the United States studying at Ripon-York St. John.
The annual award is presented each year to the international student who contributes the most to the study abroad experience, enters into the spirit of the program for the right reasons, and takes the most back home to share with others. Miller was named for the award in honor of Kate Hollister, an international student from the University of Rochester who died in the 1994 Lockerbie, Scotland plane crash when returning home from study abroad.
