Posted March 8, 1999FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
York, Pennsylvania--The second annual P.R.I.D.E. Conference takes place Friday, March 26, 1999 at 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. in York College's Alumni Hall. The acronym adopted for this very ambitious event sums up all goals in the one word P.R.I.D.E. - Partnerships Responsive Individual Development and Education of kids.
Program directors from several organizations will gather to hear how York College can volunteer their services to enhance the before and after school programs in the South George Street community. York College has focused on a few particular interests including; Music, Art, Communication, the Library, Physical Education, and Education. Physical Education, for example, will take coaches and players from various YCP athletics to the programs to teach the students different sports.
York College provides its leadership to the South George Street Community Partnership plan for a neighborhood revitalization. YCP will remain involved with this important concept and they anticipate sustained interaction with the organizations that provide before and after school opportunities for neighborhood youth.
Many students are without adult supervision between the end of the school day and the evening hours. YCP's initiative is to provide every neighborhood child with safe and convenient access to after school programs. This is designed to maintain a focus on academic achievement and healthy peer interaction.
