FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

York, Pennsylvania--Marilyn Daly, Assistant Professor of Biology at York College, is conducting a plant trial that consists of 2400 plants. She is growing a 100 different kinds of plants, 24 of each one, despite the drought. To survive the drought, Ms. Daly has had to use an organic mulch that holds water into the soil. Mr. Louis Appell donated this mulch that normally costs $1,000. Ms. Daly is also using the water from her own well and watering by hand. The trial is being conducted on Ms. Daly's 25 acre farm.

Ms. Daly is working with a student on this plant research project because it is part of the biology senior thesis research. The plants used in the plant trial are a very unusual type of plant. “Currently, they are in bloom, and it is a spectacular view,” commented Ms. Daly.

Ms. Daly is a well respected expert in the area of gardening, regularly writing articles for Better Homes and Gardens. Professor Daly's interest lies in the area of unusual and rare annuals that are found all over the world. Her flowers have rarely, if ever, been grown in the northeastern climate. Her mission is to improve the diversity and quality of seeds and plants available to growers and gardeners.
