FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

York, Pennsylvania--An open house celebration for York College's new 14,000 square foot, state-of-the-art, nursing facility will be held on September 21, 1999 from 4-7 p.m. to dedicate the building. All individuals and organizations who have donated to the building will be invited as well as the board of trustees.

The new facility is equipped with six laboratories, classrooms, lounges along with technological devices that are sure to enhance the skills of the YCP nursing students. It is critical that a nursing student receives both hands-on and book knowledge.

Most of the nursing labs are meant to resemble a hospital setting. One of the labs, an eight-bed basic care lab, features the basic skills of oxygen administration, sucking devices, physical examination, and the administration of intravenous fluids.

Another lab called the Mental Health Psychiatric Nursing Lab deals with communication and features small group settings. Inside the Critical Care Lab a sliding wall exists between a classroom and the lab so that the two rooms can function as a larger facility for teaching students.

One facility, in a lab/classroom combination, is the Parent Child Care Lab that depicts a neo-natal intensive care unit device for care of high-risk babies. Three mannequins are placed inside the lab, a newborn and a two and five year old, in addition to a mannequin that simulates pregnancy and childbirth. The labs are also home to many other mannequins-some which can even breathe.

The Community Health Care lab parallels a studio apartment. Home visits can be practiced in this type of set-up.
