York, Pennsylvania--Steve Barton, Ph.D., Director of Choral Studies at York College of Pennsylvania, has been named Director of the York Symphony Chorus. Dr. Barton will be responsible for preparing the 80-member chorus for its two major annual performances: a holiday concert in December and a concert centered on a major choral work in April. Barton will begin his duties in early January, and he will be working with Robert Baker, Ph.D., Music Director and Conductor of the York Symphony Orchestra.
According to Dr. Barton, he has already set goals for himself and the Chorus. “I would like to see the Chorus continue to grow artistically, recruit more members, and give orchestral music a greater presence in the York community,” he said.
Dr. Barton earned a Bachelor of Music from Carson-Newman College, a Master of Music from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, and a Doctor of Musical Studies from the State University of New York (SUNY) at Stony Brook.
“The York Symphony Orchestra and York College have built a strong partnership over the past few years, and we are glad that it is continuing to grow,” said Henry Nixon, Executive Director of the York Symphony Orchestra.
