York College and the Boy Scouts Will Host Learning Program for York City Academy Students

York, Pennsylvania--York College of Pennsylvania has teamed up with the Boy Scouts to offer York City Academy Students “A Better World for the New Millennium,” a three-day program teaching responsibility, cooperation, and understanding.

The York City Academy consists of three city elementary schools. Students in grades first through fifth will be invited to participate in the program free of charge during the Academy's winter break. The program will be held at York College March 1 through March 3 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

York College faculty and students and members of the Boy Scouts will coordinate and supervise the events. The program will focus on six major subject areas: community, responsible citizenship, clean air and water, conservation, getting along with others, and understanding people with special needs.

The week's activities will end with a mini-Olympics. York College President George Waldner will distribute diplomas at a closing commencement ceremony March 3 at 1:15 p.m. in MAC Recital Hall. Graduates will be awarded with the title of “Young Community Partners.”
