York, Pennsylvania--The South Central Assembly for Effective Governance will hold a summit at York College to discuss regional transportation issues on March 2 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The program has been designed especially for elected officials, community and economic development professionals, planners, consultants, educators and students.
The theme of the summit, the Assembly's third such annual event, is “Transportation Impacts and Challenges to Regionalism and Governance.” Alan Pisarski, a transportation professional known for his studies of American commuting patterns, will be a featured guest speaker.
Are the 1.7 million residents of South Central Pennsylvania getting their fair share of state and federal transportation dollars? Will the continued push west from Philadelphia and north from Baltimore bring more transportation problems? These are some of the questions the summit will explore.
Pennsylvania Department of Transportation Secretary Brad Mallory will present “The Region's Transportation System: A State Perspective.” Rep. Rick Geist, the state's leading proponent of high speed rail, will examine the future of alternative transportation. Other planned topics include “Transportation's Impact on the Environment,” “Farming and Farmlands,” and “Developing Heritage Trails.”
The summit is open to the public. Registration costs $60 before March 1 and $75 at the door. Lunch is included. For tickets or more information contact the South Central Assembly for Effective Governance at (717) 948-6464.
