Sports Industry Pros Share Their Stories, Strategies for Success
York, Pennsylvania--As the sport management field grows in popularity and jobs, a professor at York College of Pennsylvania discovered a gaping hole in literature on the topic--books that profile sports industry professionals and describe their job responsibilities, background, and strategies for success.

In “Profiles of Sport Industry Professionals: The People Who Make the Games Happen,” Matthew J. Robinson, Ed.D., takes a personal look at 48 different professionals who operate in a variety of jobs throughout the industry. Profiles range from John D. Swofford, commissioner of the powerful Atlantic Coast Conference, to a first-year employee working in the ticket office of the Toledo Mud Hens, a minor league baseball team.

“Profiles of Sport Industry Professionals” was released during the first week of August by Aspen Publishers. Although this is Robinson's first published book, he is already an established writer and sport management authority. He has published more than 20 academic articles on the subject and has made more than 25 national conference presentations.

His first book takes students behind the scenes of the sport management field and introduces professionals who speak candidly about how to enter into and advance in the industry, their likes and dislikes about their position, and their predictions for the future of sport management.

“Profiles of Sport Industry Professionals” is co-authored by Mary A. Hums, University of Louisville; R. Brian Crow, Hampton University; and Dennis R. Phillips, University of Southern Mississippi.

For more information about the book, or to schedule an interview with Dr. Robinson, please contact John Ertter, York College News Bureau Editor, at (717) 815-1309.
