Pianist Allen Barker to Perform Works of Short Lived Composers
York, Pennsylvania--York College Candlelight Concerts will present world-renowned pianist Allen Barker on Oct. 22 at 3 p.m. in MAC Recital Hall. Barker will perform his "Short Works by Short Lived Composers," which includes the works of Mozart, Schubert, Chopin and Gershwin, among others. The event is free and open to the public.
Barker has performed extensively in the United States and Europe, and he has appeared with a number of orchestras including the Boston Pops. One of his most recent highlights was a performance at the Farnsworth Museum in his native state of Maine to honor Andrew Wyeth on his eightieth birthday.
The Oct. 22 concert will be Allen Barker's third for the Candlelight Series. It will also mark the opening of his fall tour to Florida with appearances in Maryland, Virginia and North Carolina.
After graduating from Yale University, Barker studied with David Barnett at the New England Conservatory. He now resides in the greater-Boston town of Wayland where he and his wife have their respective piano and ballet studios. Under the name Lester Farnsworth, Barker is also active in creating a variety of visual works including collages, paintings and pastels.
The 2000-2001 Candlelight Concert Series will resume on Nov. 26 with a lively classics and jazz performance by the Baltimore Mandolin Orchestra. The last two events are scheduled for Feb. 18 and March 18, 2001.
