Students Can Enter Growing Healthcare Field in Less Than One Year
York, Pennsylvania--York College of Pennsylvania is now offering a specialized healthcare coding program that enables high school graduates to enter the exciting and highly rewarding healthcare field in less than one year.
The program offers two education tracks. A Healthcare Coding Specialist Certificate can be obtained after two semesters, and an Associate of Science degree can be obtained after four semesters. Both tracks will prepare students for employment in hospitals, clinics, insurance companies and other settings where diagnostic and procedural data are coded for reimbursement purposes. All graduates will be qualified to take the Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) exam offered by the American Health Information Management Association.
The healthcare coding classes will be held in the new York College Center Medical Arts Building located at 605 South George Street in York. Courses can be taken on a part-time basis, and the only academic requirement for admission is a high school degree.
The first classes begin Feb. 12. The next set of introductory courses will begin in September. An open house for prospective students and members of the general public will be held on March 27, 2001 from 5 to 7 p.m. in the York College Center Medical Arts Building.
Certified healthcare coders are now benefiting from a rapidly expanding job market. Regulations for payment of health services by the government and other third party payers have created a growing number of excellent, high paying jobs nationwide.
