Winter Commencement

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

York, Pennsylvania -- More than 300 students will receive their diplomas on Wednesday, December 17 during the Winter Commencement ceremony at York College of Pennsylvania. The event will take place in Wolf Gym A, beginning at 10:30 a.m.

This year's graduation speaker is Christine Todd Whitman, former presidential cabinet member, and 50th Governor of New Jersey. In 2001, President Bush appointed her as Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency. For two-and-a-half years she served in that capacity, helping make our air cleaner, water purer, and land better protected than when she took office. Prior to taking the reins of the EPA, Whitman served as the Governor of New Jersey, becoming the first woman ever elected to that state's highest office. She worked diligently to cut state income taxes, while at the same time increasing state funding for public education. She reduced crime to its lowest level in 25 years, and worked to preserve farmland and open space in the nation's most densely populated state.

The faculty speaker for commencement will be Dr. John Altman, Assistant Professor of History and Political Science. For more information concerning winter commencement, please call Randy Gray In the York College PR Office at (717) 815-1309.
