Annual Science Conference for Children to Be Held June 4

York, Pennsylvania--York College of Pennsylvania and the Elementary Science Integration Project will host the Kids' Inquiry Conference 2001 on Monday, June 4, from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at York College. Approximately 100 elementary school children from York County, Pa. and Carroll County, Md. will be taught the many wonders of science through hands-on exhibits and student presentations.
The goal of the Kids' Inquiry Conference, or KIC, is to show children how science is a dynamic force in their lives. The program is designed to be similar to an actual scientific conference and includes a tour of York College, interactive exhibits, and presentation sessions that allow students to share their own research and learn about the research of others.
This is the sixth KIC held at York College. This year, classes from North Hills Elementary School in York County, Pa. and Manchester Elementary School in Carroll County, Md. will participate in the event.
The annual highlight of KIC is the interactive science exhibit hosted by Dr. Bill Kreiger, professor of physical science at York College. Kreiger and his college students use hands-on workstations to teach children such topics as the seasons, stars, sundials, rocks and minerals.
The Elementary Science Integration Project (ESIP) was founded in 1990 at the University of Maryland with the purpose of teaching children authentic science through child-centered and inquiry-based activities.
The Kids' Inquiry Conference will begin and end in MAC Recital Hall. The student presentations will be held in DeMeester Theater, located in the Life-Science Building. Media members are encouraged to attend.
