FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

York, Pennsylvania—For the second consecutive summer, York College is giving local high school students an opportunity to attend classes, earn college credit, and get a preview of college life—all at a reduced cost.

The York College "Summer 2001 College Experience," being held July 9 through Aug. 8, has been designed to give outstanding high school students a taste of college life before their senior year. Participating students are attending a variety of entry-level courses with regular college students and are taking part in enrichment activities prepared by the Student Activities Office.

This year, nine students from York, Lancaster, and Adams Counties are enrolled in the College Experience program.

Most students are attending a three-credit hour class Monday through Thursday for two hours each day. Course credits can be used toward a York College degree or can be transferred to another college or university. All participating students have received a one-third tuition scholarship as part of the program.

The rising high school seniors qualified for this scholarship program by scoring 1000 or higher on the PSAT or SAT, having a grade point average of 3.0 or better, ranking in the top 40 percent of their class and receiving a recommendation from a guidance counselor.
