AMP Foundation Supports New Mechanical Engineering Laboratory
Posted July 30, 2001FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
York, Pennsylvania—The AMP Foundation, in conjunction with Tyco Electronics Corporation (formerly AMP Incorporated), has donated $35,000 in support of a new Computer Integrated Manufacturing Laboratory (CIM Lab) for York College's mechanical engineering program.
"We are pleased to be a partner in this educational initiative," said Mary Rakoczy, administrator of the AMP Foundation. "We know that our investment in today's students will give us tomorrow's skilled engineers."
Tyco Electronics is a member of the mechanical engineering program's Industry Advisory Council (IAC). The IAC was formed in 1993 with the purpose of bringing an industry perspective to the planning and conduct of a mechanical engineering program at York College. The mechanical engineering program started in 1994, and the IAC now consists of 21 regional industry leaders.
Once completed, the CIM Lab will serve as the centerpiece of the mechatronics stem of the mechanical engineering program. The Lab will be an invaluable tool for upper-division courses in mechatronics, robotics and the computer control of machines and processes.
Paul Hollis, project manager for Tyco Electronics, will consult with York College as plans for the CIM Lab move forward.
