FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

York, Pennsylvania—Environmental lawyer Robert F. Kennedy Jr. will speak at York College of Pennsylvania on Thursday, Oct. 18 at 7:30 p.m. in Wolf Gymnasium A. The lecture, which is free and open to the public, is a highlight of York College's 2001-2002 Cultural Series, "American Impressions and Expressions."

Kennedy serves as chief prosecuting attorney for the Hudson Riverkeeper and senior attorney for the National Resources Defense Council. He is also a clinical professor and supervising attorney at the Environmental Litigation Clinic at Pace University School of Law in New York. He has worked on several political campaigns, including Al Gore's 2000 presidential campaign.

Kennedy has earned a reputation as a staunch defender of the environment through a number of successful legal actions. Most notably, he has prosecuted governments and companies for polluting the Hudson River and Long Island Sound. He has won settlements for the Hudson Riverkeeper, argued cases to expand citizen access to the shoreline, and sued sewage treatment plants to force compliance with the Clean Water Act.

Kennedy is a graduate of Harvard University. He received his law degree from the University of Virginia Law School. He later earned a master's degree in environmental law from Pace University School of Law.

For a limited time after the lecture, Kennedy will sign copies of "The Riverkeepers," a book he co-authored in 1997. The paperback version of the book will be on sale for $14.
