Oct. 11 Seminar to Help Educators Handle the Sept. 11 Tragedy

York, Pennsylvania—York College of Pennsylvania will hold a seminar for local educators titled "The Aftermath of September 11th in Our Schools" on Thursday, Oct. 11 from 5 to 8 p.m. in MAC Recital Hall. The keynote speaker will be psychiatrist Paul Kettl, M.D., chairman of the Department of Psychiatry at the Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine and the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center.

"The goal of the seminar is to better prepare educators to help their students deal with the aftermath of the September 11th tragedy," said Michael McGough, D.Ed., coordinator of the seminar and director of the Professional Development Division of the Education Department of York College.

Approximately 200 teachers, school administrators and youth service providers from the York, Lancaster and Harrisburg areas are expected to attend the seminar. York College student teachers and their cooperating teachers will also attend.

The seminar is being sponsored by the Professional Development Division of the Education Department of York College. Educators wanting to attend the seminar must pre-register by calling (717) 815-1422.

The seminar will begin at 5 p.m. with registration, informal discussion and dinner. Dr. Kettl will speak from 5:45 to 6:45 p.m. Dr. Kettl will moderate an open forum for questions and discussion from 6:45 to 8 p.m.

Dr. Kettl is a native of York, Pa. He joined the faculty of the Department of Psychiatry at Hershey Medical Center in 1986.
