President Waldner Appointed to National Postsecondary Education Board

York, Pennsylvania—York College of Pennsylvania President George W. Waldner has been appointed to the National Board of the Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education (FIPSE) by U.S. Education Secretary Roderick R. Paige.

Waldner was appointed to the Board of FIPSE on Sept. 24. His term began immediately and will continue through Aug. 31, 2003. He will continue to serve as president of York College.

FIPSE is a unit of the U.S. Department of Education's Office of Policy, Planning and Innovation. According to its stated operating principles, FIPSE's mandate is to "improve postsecondary educational opportunities." FIPSE seeks to "support the implementation of innovative educational reform ideas, to evaluate how well they work, and to share the lessons learned with the larger education community."

FIPSE was established by the Higher Education Amendments of 1972.
