Engineering Society of York Pledges $150,000 Toward Engineering Lab
Posted October 22, 2001FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
York, Pennsylvania—In what will be one of the largest donations ever made to York College of Pennsylvania, The Engineering Society of York has pledged $150,000 in support of a new Computer Integrated Manufacturing Laboratory for the College's mechanical engineering program.
The Engineering Society of York has already contributed an initial installment of $50,000. The remaining amount will be donated over the next three years.
The donation is being made through the Edgar P. Kable Foundation, which is administered by The Engineering Society of York. The Engineering Society of York is making the donation in memory of Edgar Kable and his nephew John Kable.
Once completed, the CIM Lab will serve as the centerpiece of the mechatronics stem of the mechanical engineering program. The CIM Lab will be an invaluable tool for upper-division courses in mechatronics, robotics and the computer control of machines and processes.
This past spring, the AMP Foundation, in conjunction with Tyco Electronics Corp., donated $35,000 toward the CIM Lab.
James Kearns, Ph.D., York College associate professor of physical science, will lead the development of the CIM Lab. "The CIM Lab will expose our students to state-of-the-art manufacturing equipment and processes, particularly those that are relevant to the manufacturers in our region," Dr. Kearns said. "These gifts are crucial in helping us realize the full potential of the CIM Lab and our students' study of modern manufacturing."
