York, Pennsylvania—The York-based Keystone Brass Quintet will celebrate 25 years of music with a York College of Pennsylvania Candlelight Concert on Sunday, Feb. 3, at 3 p.m. in MAC Recital Hall. The concert is free and open to the public.
The Keystone Brass Quintet was founded in the fall of 1976 and presented its first public concert in April of 1977 at York College. More than 200 performances and 25 years later, four of the five founding members remain with the ensemble, and the fifth member has been with the group for more than 20 years.
The Candlelight Concert will feature favorites from the past 25 years as well as new repertoire. The concert will feature all quintet members as soloists with the group. Michael Dietz, trombone, will perform Figaro's famous aria from Rossini's "Barber of Seville." Doug Winemiller and Peter Johnston, trumpets, will be featured in Vivaldi's "Concerto for Two Trumpets." The Rondo from Mozart's "Horn Concerto No. 3" features French hornist Stephen Burg. Sy Brandon, tuba, will be soloing on a Canadian Brass arrangement of "Tuba Tiger Rag." The quintet will perform other arrangements including "Funeral March of the Marionettes," "Red River Valley," and in honor of Valentine's Day, a medley of love songs. The concert will conclude with a rendition of Rossini's "William Tell Overture."
The 2001-2002 York College Candlelight Concert season will conclude on March 10 with the annual Young Artists' Recital.
