Posted March 25, 2002FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
York, Pennsylvania - As a contribution to York College's Scholarship Day on April 29, Dr. Stephen Wessley's Medieval Civilization class presents "Stained Glass Windows." The exhibit runs April 29 - May 31 in the Archives and Special Collections Room at the Schmidt Library, Monday - Friday 8:30 a.m. - 5 p.m., or by appointment.
Examples of the stained glass, architectural fragments, a video summary, and a digital inventory of the glass will be used to exhibit highlights of the students' research of stained glass windows in local York churches compared to medieval stained glass, symbolism used in the YCP stained glass windows such as the white rose of York, and the romanesque architecture of the York Collegiate Institute building, which was designed by local architect J. Dempwolf. Dempwolf also created many buildings in the area during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The exhibit features the stained glass windows of the York College campus, which originally came from the York Collegiate Institute building on College Ave. The windows were designed by J. Horace Rudy, whose company, Rudy Glass, is still in operation today repairing stained glass windows of the area, especially for churches.
This event is free and open to the public.
