York, Pennsylvania -- Education does not always have to take place in a classroom. A brand new initiative partnering York College of Pennsylvania with several local companies has students learning "real life" skills, out in the real world! It's called the Pathways P.L.U.S.S. program, which provides computer training, career counseling, parenting skills, job search training and much more. Leroy Keeney, Director of Special Programs at York College, says "Pathways is aimed at opening career paths for unemployed and under employed residents."
This is a true community outreach effort involving a number of local businesses including, Memorial Hospital, Wellspan Health and York County School of Technology. Participants in the program learn and train at these fine companies and elsewhere. Training is provided for: Certified Nursing Assistant, Pharmacy Technician, Emergency Medical Technician, Assistant Care Provider and other positions. The program is funded, in part, by a state grant.
The Special Programs Department at York College has just kicked off its training program. For more information and/or to arrange interviews/pictures with participants, call Leroy Keeney, Director of Special Programs at 815-1360.
