FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(York, Pennsylvania) -- For the third year in a row, incoming freshmen at York College of Pennsylvania are participating in the "Summer Book Project." They're reading a fictional novel entitled "Bee Season," by Myla Goldberg. The project serves as an icebreaker of sorts, giving new students something educational to talk about over the summer and during the first weeks of class.

The "Bee Season" is a coming of age type novel. It's the story of a young Jewish girl who hasn't had much success at anything until she enters her first spelling bee. She has great success and winds her way toward a national competition. However, there's trouble at home. The child's family is in a state of turmoil.

The book, which was selected by a diverse group of York College faculty, will be discussed in various courses throughout the year. For more information about the "Summer Book Project," you may contact project coordinator, Dr. Carolyn Mathur at (717) 815-1409.
