Cultural Series 2002-2003: "Innovations"
Posted August 14, 2002FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
York, Pennsylvania -- The theme of this year's Cultural Series at York College of Pennsylvania is "Innovations," and when you read over the list of coming attractions you'll agree it's an innovative lineup. The series will include comedy, movies, musical performances, an art exhibit, and more. All of the events are free and open to the public. The ball gets rolling in September and concludes in May.
Perhaps the highlight of the Cultural Series will be a debate between Pennsylvania's Senior U.S. Senator Arlen Specter and a York College professor. They'll argue the controversial "single bullet theory," concerning the murder of President John F. Kennedy. Senator Specter was appointed to the Warren Commission staff where he played a key role in investigating the assassination. The debate will take place in the Wolf Gymnasium-Auditorium, date and time to be announced.
Another innovative happening will be a lecture by Sally Ride, America's first woman in space. She'll land on campus in February and will discuss her career and experiences. Ride was aboard two flights of the space shuttle Challenger. Her presentation will be February 19 at 7:30 p.m. in the Wolf Gymnasium-Auditorium.
Also on tap for the 2002-2003 Cultural Series will be two performances by the legendary musician Igor Stravinsky. They'll take place in the Music, Art and Communications (MAC)
Center's Recital Hall May 3 at 7 p.m. and May 4 at 3 p.m. The president and publisher of USA TODAY, Tom Curley, will give a lecture March 20 at 7 p.m. in DeMeester Theater.
These are just a few of the many exciting events coming to York College during the new school year. For more information on the Cultural Series, you may call Amber Amerman, Director of Student Activities, at (717) 815-1380.
