Marty Devers Scholarship Fund
Posted March 13, 2003FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
York, Pennsylvania -- A special scholarship fund is being established at York College of Pennsylvania to honor Professor Marty Devers. He has been teaching criminal justice courses at the College for the last 25 years, the last four on a part-time basis. A recently formed committee has created the "Marty Devers Scholarship Fund," to recognize a man whose significant efforts have helped many working students obtain college degrees. The goal of the fund drive is to raise at least $10,000, which will fund an annual scholarship of $500.
On Friday, April 4 a reception and banquet will be held at the College, as part of the fundraiser. Colleagues and former students will gather to honor Professor Devers. The event will also kick-off a Distinguished Lecturer Series in Criminal Justice. Professor Renee Lettow Lerner, of George Washington College of Law, will deliver the inaugural lecture, "Changes in the United States Criminal Justice System in the Wake of the September 11 Attacks." Professor Lerner is a past Rhodes Scholar and law clerk to Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy.
The reception and banquet begins at 6 p.m. in the Buechel Lounge of the Student Union building. Tickets are $25 each. For more information, you may call Dr. Jack Levisky, Chair of the YCP Behavioral Sciences Department, at (717) 815-1418.
