York, Pennsylvania -- The Washington Post has just released a report entitled "Colleges Worth Considering," in which 100 institutions of higher education were named. The Post asked readers and guidance counselors from across the country for their thoughts on colleges and universities that deserve bigger reputations, what the paper calls "Hidden Gems."
York College of Pennsylvania was ranked 36th. Louis J. Bamonte, guidance chairperson at Walter G. O'Connell Copiague High School in Copiague, N.Y., said York College "has a good selection of programs" and because of strong alumni support, tuition "is very inexpensive as far as private schools are concerned." Marilee Kessler, counselor at Central York High School, said "this college does everything first class!"
The Post also released a list of 20 schools in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, and North Carolina that it feels deserve a closer look. York College was ranked 10th. A complete account of both surveys may be found in the book "Harvard Schmarvard: Getting Beyond the Ivy League to the College that is Best for You."
